Ondo New Speaker Petitions IGP over ‘Threat’ to Life

The newly elected speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly Olamide George, has petitioned the Inspector General of Police Ibrahim Idris over an alleged threat to his life and some of his colleagues.

George, alongside 17 other lawmakers, made the call at a news conference in Ibadan on Saturday evening.

Recall that Bamidele Oloyelogun and Ogundeji Iroju, speaker and deputy speaker, were impeached on Friday.

He alleged that since the duo were impeached, he and his deputy were being threatened over the impeachment, calling on the president to save democracy from collapse.

The new deputy speaker Faloju Abimbola and other lawmakers corroborated George’s claims and called on Inspector General of Police to immediately redeploy the commissioner of police from the state, accusing him of bias.

Abimbola said the impeachment was carried out in line with the constitutional provision which stipulated that such exercise could only be carried out by two-third of the members.
