King Charles III Diagnosed with Cancer

Buckingham Palace disclosed in a statement on Monday that King Charles III has been diagnosed with a form of cancer. This revelation follows the King’s recent visit to a London hospital last month for a corrective procedure related to an enlarged prostate.

“During the King’s recent hospital procedure for benign prostate enlargement, a separate issue of concern was noted. Subsequent diagnostic tests have identified a form of cancer,” the palace stated without providing specific details regarding the type and stage of the cancer.

Last week, both King Charles and Catherine, Princess of Wales, were discharged from a private London clinic after undergoing medical procedures. While the King underwent a medical procedure for an enlarged prostate, Kate, aged 42, also underwent surgery on January 17 to address an abdominal issue.

“His Majesty has today commenced a schedule of regular treatments, during which time he has been advised by doctors to postpone public-facing duties. Throughout this period, His Majesty will continue to undertake state business and official paperwork as usual,” the statement revealed.

The decision to share his diagnosis was made by the King to prevent speculation about his condition. Additionally, he hopes that sharing his diagnosis will contribute to public understanding for individuals worldwide affected by cancer.

Expressing gratitude to his medical team for their swift intervention, made possible thanks to his recent hospital procedure, the King remains optimistic about his treatment and eagerly anticipates resuming full public duties at the earliest opportunity.

King Charles III ascended to the throne following the demise of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, in September 2022. In May 2023, he was formally crowned in a grand ceremony attended by the royal family, 4,000 British and Commonwealth troops, and approximately 100 world leaders.
