Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to Visit Nigeria in May – DHQ

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) of Nigeria announced over the weekend that the Duke of Sussex, Prince Harry, and his wife, Meghan Markle, members of the British Royal family, are scheduled to meet with military personnel during their upcoming visit to Nigeria.

In a statement signed by Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, the Director of Defence Information (DDI), it was revealed that the royal couple will engage with service members and participate in various cultural activities during their visit.

The DHQ expressed its appreciation and excitement for the visit of Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, in May 2024. The statement highlighted the couple’s involvement in founding the Invictus Games, an international multi-sporting event that provides a recovery pathway for wounded, injured, and sick service men and women. The games aim to raise awareness and recognition in society to support the rehabilitation of soldiers.

The Invictus Games, which saw participation from 21 nations including Nigeria, resulted in gold and silver medals for the country at its inaugural outing. The visit of Prince Harry and Meghan is seen as an opportunity to strengthen Nigeria’s presence in the games and explore the possibility of hosting the event in the future.

The Honourable Minister of Defence, Alhaji Mohammed Abubakar Badaru, who attended the previous year’s event in Germany, has expressed readiness to host the Invictus Games in Nigeria when the opportunity arises.
