FRSC Records 111 Road Crashes, 17 Deaths in Lagos in Q1 2024

The Lagos Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps reported 111 road accidents in the first quarter of 2024, resulting in 535 people being involved and 17 fatalities, according to Babatunde Farinloye, the Sector Commander, who spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria on Tuesday in Lagos.

Farinloye stated that there were 179 casualties, consisting of 162 injured individuals and 17 fatalities, with 111 cases recorded, including 14 fatal, 65 serious, and 32 minor accidents.

He further revealed that 98 commercial vehicles, 69 privately owned vehicles, and two government vehicles were involved in the accidents.

Farinloye attributed the cause of accidents to various factors, including environmental and mechanical errors, but primarily due to human error.

He expressed his concerns about human behavior, such as exceeding speed limits, failing to recognize road signals and signs, neglecting vehicle maintenance, and disregarding poor road conditions, which contribute to the high incidence of accidents.
