Buhari Summons Security Council Meeting

A day after he was asked to resign by some members of the National Assembly, President Muhammadu Buhari has summoned an emergency National Security meeting.

The minority leader of the Senate, Eyinnaya Abaribe had while contributing to the motion on the state of insecurity in the country had called on President Muhammadu Buhari to resign saying the APC led government has failed to tame the rising insecurity in the country.

Present at the Emergency Security meeting are Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, Minister of Defence, Monsour Dan Ali, Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, the Service Chiefs, Inspector-General of Police and host of other security stakeholders.

Aside from the renewed onslaughts by Boko Haram insurgents in the North-East, cases banditry and kidnapping have also been on the rise. About 29 people were recently killed in a village in Zamfara State despite the amnesty and ceased fire agreements reached with the bandits by Governors of Zamfara and Kebbi States.

The worrisome security situation in the country also has also led the House of Representatives unanimously demanded the resignation of service chiefs for suboptimal performance.

The House requested the president to sack them if they fail to heed the call to resign.

The lawmaker also promised to enact laws to give legal support to the South-west security initiative, Amotekun, and similar outfits that may be set up by states.
