A fire has gutted the oil pipeline at Ubeta community of Ahoada West in Rivers state belonging to Italian oil giant Agip. It was reported that the fire was started by unscrupulous people described as crude oil thieves.

A community source, who participated in a Joint Investigative Visit (JIV) to the burnt facility said that the fire at the Nigeria Agip Oil company, a subsidiary of Italy’s Eni, started in the early hours of 20th through 22nd until the fire-fighting team was able to arrest the situation.

However, he said the JIV report concluded that the fire was caused by pipeline vandalisation which has become rampant in the Niger Delta region.
