Akwa Ibom State Government has announced the launch of a Geographical Information System GIS called Akwa-GIS.
The system is aimed at addressing issues of sharp practices in land administration. The state Commissioner for Lands and Housing, Capt. Iniobong Ekong (retd.), revealed that the delay in the project’s launch was due to the integration of various state structures.
He added that once launched, the Akwa-GIS will allow citizens to handle land-related transactions online, including searches, uploading documents, and obtaining authorizations and Certificates of Occupancy (C of Os).
The government aims to eliminate sharp practices and improve the ease of doing business in land transactions, reducing issues like land grabbing.
