Niger State Workers Commence Indefinite Strike Over Unmet Demands

Workers in Niger State have embarked on a strike today following a directive from the state chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress.

The indefinite strike was called after the state government failed to meet the workers’ demands.

Idrees Lafene, the state chairman of the Nigerian Labour Congress, along with Ibrahim Gana, the Trade Union Congress counterpart, instructed civil servants in the state to begin the strike due to the state government’s alleged failure to continue negotiations on issues affecting worker welfare and the state’s operations.

However, in an attempt to prevent the strike, the Secretary to the State Government, Abubakar Usman, informed the press that a meeting to address concerns with labour was scheduled for Tuesday afternoon.

Usman emphasized that the Mohammed Bago administration maintained a positive relationship with organised labour, ensuring that all contentious issues would be resolved in the state’s best interest.

He assured the public that the Bago administration is supportive of the people and labour and remains open to dialogue and negotiations for the progress of Niger State.
