Katsina Govt to establish mobile court for GBV Cases

The Katsina Government has announced plans to establish a mobile court dedicated to handling Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and child abuse cases in the state.

According to the Commissioner of Women Affairs, Hajiya Zainab Musa-Musawa, discussions are underway with the state high court to set up the court, which will operate under the Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) law.

She emphasized that the aim is to reduce crime rates, support victims, and ensure justice, with partnerships being forged with the state’s Hisbah board and relevant authorities like the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP).

The commissioner highlighted the success of the newly established GBV center in treating and resolving numerous cases, indicating a collective effort to create a safer environment and deliver justice.

She appealed to various stakeholders, including community leaders, organizations, philanthropists, and the media, to lend their support to the center.

It’s worth noting that the state government recently domesticated the VAPP Act 2015 and the Child Protection Law as part of broader efforts to combat violence across the state. Governor Dikko Radda reaffirmed the government’s commitment to a zero-tolerance policy against GBV during the unveiling of the Acts into law and the inauguration of a steering committee on GBV.
