S’Court Dismisses Binani’s Appeal, affirms Fintiri as Adamawa Governor

The supreme court has affirmed Ahmadu Fintiri as the duly elected governor of Adamawa state.A five-member panel of the apex court, led by John Okoro, Wednesday, dismissed the petition filed by Aisha ‘Binani’ Dahiru, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the election.

Following the supplementary election, the Independent National Electoral Commission declared Fintiri, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, as the winner with 430,861 votes, while Binani of the APC secured 398,788 votes.

Binani took her case to the tribunal, alleging corrupt practices and non-compliance with the Electoral Act. However, a three-man panel of the Court of Appeal, led by Justice Tunde Awotoye, ruled on Monday that the appellant’s brief was invalid and could potentially be struck out for incompetence.

Justice Awotoye further stated that the appellants submitted an incompetent record of appeal, contrary to the court’s practice directions, and attempted to engage the appeal court in speculation. The court also concluded that the allegations of corrupt practices by the appellant lacked sufficient evidence and were rightfully dismissed by the tribunal.
