JAMB Denies Female Candidate Lost Time over Hijab Controversy in Lagos

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has refuted claims that a UTME candidate, who was asked to remove her hijab before entering the exam hall in Lagos, lost time during the incident. In a statement signed by its Public Communication Advisor, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, JAMB clarified that the candidate’s time was not affected and that the issue had been thoroughly investigated.

The statement emphasized that the candidate, Ms. Tiamiyu Ayisat Morenikeji, was allowed into the examination venue without any delay or time loss. The incident was promptly addressed by the examination officials, ensuring that the candidate underwent the necessary processes in a timely manner.

JAMB highlighted that the candidate’s entrance into the examination venue did not impact her schedule or time allocation, as the situation was swiftly resolved before the official commencement time for screening. The Board stressed that the call for compensation was unwarranted, as the candidate was not deprived of any rights or privileges during the brief incident.

The statement urged stakeholders to exercise caution in their requests and assured that JAMB would continue to uphold fairness and justice in its operations. It reiterated the Board’s commitment to addressing issues promptly and ensuring that all candidates are treated fairly, regardless of their background.

JAMB called for support and understanding from individuals and groups to maintain a conducive examination environment and emphasized the importance of responsible requests aligned with the Board’s operational framework.
