The Federal Government has initiated the commencement of the construction of modern hostels in 36 higher institutions nationwide for the year 2024.
The government expressed its readiness to construct more hostel facilities once the initial set is completed.
This was disclosed by the Executive Secretary of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), Sonny Echono, during a meeting on Tuesday with the new leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) led by President Lucky Emonefe.
According to a statement released on Wednesday by TETFund’s Director of Public Affairs, AbdulMumin Oniyangi, NANS advocated for the upkeep of TETFund projects in beneficiary institutions across the country, as well as the construction of a NANS secretariat in Abuja.
Echono highlighted that there was an increased allocation for maintaining TETFund infrastructure beyond five years in the 2024 intervention cycle.
Regarding the request for a NANS secretariat, Echono assured that the agency would review the proposal and seek approval from the Ministry of Education.
He also revealed plans for the intervention agency to collaborate with the student body for joint monitoring of projects across various beneficiary institutions.
