Igbo Traditional Rulers, Clergy Rally Nigerians On Free And Fair Election Saturday

Ahead of the governorship elections in Bayelsa, Kogi, and Imo States,the Southeast Council of Traditional Rulers, along with representatives of Igbo Archbishops and Bishops on Peace and Conflict Resolution, has issued a collective appeal for a free, fair, and transparent electoral process. Emphasizing the importance of citizens’ active participation, the group called on all Nigerians to ensure the elections are conducted in an atmosphere of integrity. Additionally, the Southeast Council urged the Federal and Imo State Governments to play their part in ensuring the elections are conducted with fairness and transparency.

Bill To Amend Cbn Act Scales Second Reading

The House of Representatives bill seeking to amend the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Act successfully passed its second reading. The sponsor, Francis Waive, highlighted the crucial aspects targeted for amendment, focusing on enhancing the effectiveness, transparency, and accountability of the apex bank and its operations. One key amendment proposed by Waive involves separating the Chairman of the Board of the CBN from the CBN Governor, a move aimed at bolstering independence, oversight, and a more effective system of checks and balances within the governance structure of the CBN.

The Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Barr Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, has said plans are underway by the President Bola Tinubu led administration to launch a roadmap aimed at removing over 80 percent of unemployed youth from the streets.The minister challenged top managers at the National Directorate of Employment (NDE) to buckle up for the task of combating unemployment in the country to the bare minimum.The minister said the Nigerian government has vowed to address the pressing issue of unemployment, particularly among young people, with a renewed emphasis on the NDE.

Nafdac Alerts Public To Defective Hiv Test Kits

NAFDAC has issued a public alert concerning Abbott’s m-PIMA HIV-1/2 VL test kits, revealing that they did not meet performance claims for HIV-1 groups O and HIV-1 group M and N throughout their claimed shelf life. The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control made this announcement based on Abbott’s internal stability monitoring program. However, it was clarified that the performance for HIV-2 remains unaffected. Healthcare providers and the public are advised to take note of this information to ensure accurate HIV testing procedures.

Lafia Stadium Ready For 2023/24 Nnl Season Kickoff

Nasarawa State Deputy Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Akabe, has affirmed the state’s readiness to host the commencement of the 2023/24 Nigeria National League (NNL) at the recently renovated Lafia City Stadium.
