Federal High Court in Abuja has rejected an application filed by the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) seeking to overturn a judgment that restrained the commission from imposing fines on broadcast stations across the country.
The legal action was initiated by the Media Rights Agenda (MRA) after the NBC imposed a N500,000 fine on Channels, TVC, AIT, and 42 other stations on March 1, 2019, for allegedly violating the Nigerian broadcasting code.
MRA argued that the commission’s actions violated the right to a fair hearing under Section 36 of the 1999 Constitution and Article 7 of the African Charter on Human and Peoples Rights.
