Marathon World Record-Holder, Kelvin Kiptum Dies in Kenya

Kelvin Kiptum, the holder of the marathon world record, tragically lost his life along with his coach in a car accident in Kenya late on Sunday, according to a fellow athlete who visited the hospital and saw Kiptum’s body.

Kiptum, aged 24, was poised to become a long-distance running sensation before the unfortunate incident.

The accident occurred around 11 p.m. on a road between Eldoret and Kaptagat in western Kenya, a renowned training hub for long-distance runners due to its high-altitude region.

Milcah Chemos, a Kenyan runner, revealed that she and a group of athletes rushed to the hospital in Eldoret upon hearing the news of the crash. Kiptum’s family members were also present to identify his body.

Reports from Kenyan media indicate that a third individual, a woman, sustained serious injuries in the car and was transported to the same hospital.
