Nigerian Sprinters, Ofili, Onwuzurike Win at New York Grand Prix

Nigerian athletes Favour Ofili and Udodi Onwuzurike delivered standout performances at the USTAF New York Grand Prix on Sunday, securing victories in the women’s and men’s 100m events, respectively.

Udodi Onwuzurike, former World U20 200m champion, clinched the men’s 100m title with a time of 10.24 seconds, narrowly edging out Americans Kendal Williams with a of 10.25 seconds and Pjai Austin with 10.26 seconds. Favour Ofili triumphed in the women’s 100m, finishing in 11.18 seconds.

She was followed closely by veteran sprinter Morolake Akinosun with a time of 11.20 seconds and American Aleia Hobbs with a time of 11.21 seconds. Despite her victory, Ofili aims to achieve the Olympic qualifying standard of 11.07 seconds before the qualification window closes.

However, she has already secured her spot in the 200m event. Ofili holds the African record in the 150m and recorded a qualifying time of 22.33 seconds in the 200m in April.
