FCTA: Roadside Hawkers Cry Out Over Evacuation Plans

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, is grappling with the issue of road traders, vendors, and beggars causing congestion and traffic headaches on major roads, both during the day and at night.

Notorious points such as Berger Yard, Karu under-bridge, and Area One roundabout have become almost impassable due to the activities of these road traders.

In response, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has called for the demolition and evacuation of roadside stores and traders, sparking reactions from affected traders who argue that they are an essential part of the city’s economy.

While the move by the FCT Minister may seem harsh to some, it is seen as an action aimed at sanitizing the nation’s capital and addressing the growing issue of congestion caused by roadside trading.
