Asaba Indigenes Mourn 600 Civil War Heros in Delta

Indigenes and residents of Asaba shut down the popular ‘Ogbogologo Market’ till 2:00 p.m. on Monday in deference to the order of the Omu of Asaba, Ada Biose to remember their relatives murdered by federal troops during the civil war in the Delta State capital.

The representative of Asagba of Asaba, Obi Godfrey Konwe in the course of the event which began in the morning, read out the names of victims engraved on a platform and laid wreaths for the fallen heroes.

“We have forgiven but cannot forget the brazen murder of thousands of brilliant men, women, and children while we still wonder why the worrisome silence from the Federal Government on this injustice,” he said.

The President-General of Asaba Development Union, Prof. Epiphany Azinge recounted that over 600 of their sons and daughters were murdered in cold blood yet, attempts had been made to stop the remembrance.

However, a minute silence was observed globally by indigenes at exactly 12 noon followed by 21-gun salute. The five quarters that make up the city, namely Umu Ezei; Umu Aji; Umu Agwu; Ogbomanta and Umu Onaje, ensured total compliance and were represented at the memorial which held at Ogbe-Osowe area in Oshimili South Local Council.
