JUST IN: UK’s Supreme Court Voids Suspension of Parliament

Britain’s Supreme Court on Tuesday said that parliamentarians could resume seating “as soon as possible” after ruling that a decision by Prime Minister Boris Johnson to suspend parliament was unlawful.

On August 31st, thousands of protesters turned to the street across the UK with the aim of forcing the Prime Minister to reverse his decision to suspend parliament for five weeks in the run-up to the October 31 departure from the EU.

However, the Court ruled that “It is for parliament, and in particular the Speaker and the Lord Speaker, to decide what to do next”

The Supreme judge added that “The decision to advise Her Majesty to stop the parliament was unlawful because it had the effect of frustrating the ability of parliament to carry out its constitutional functions without reasonable justification,”
