Guber Poll: Bayelsa Speaker Quits, Give Reason for Action

Ahead of the November 16th Governorship election in the State, the Speaker of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Tonye Isenah has resigned his position after pressure mounted on him by some leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the State.

The pressure, according to party sources is to ensure balance equation of political offices ahead of the governorship poll.

Isenah and the PDP’s Governorship Candidate, Douye Diri hail from the same constituency and this most party fateful believe could affect the chances of the PDP to getting overwhelming votes from the Southern Ijaw area of the state.
A party source was quoted as saying Isenah finally decided to resign so that he won’t be blamed in case the PDP fails to win the election.

“Isenah hinted of his resignation while addressing staff of the Assembly after presiding over plenary on Friday.
“Members of the House that witnessed the Speaker’s briefing were Felix Bonny Ayah, representing Southern Ijaw Constituency 1, and Moses Marlon, representing Southern Ijaw Constituency 3.”

In an interview, Isenah also confirmed his resignation saying he does not “have a choice”.
