The Depressing Suicide Note of a Banker

Last weekend will definitely be one of the saddest moment in the lives of the family of Onyechere, a banker who committed suicide and left a sad and loving note for his wife, whom he described as the ‘best’.

The banker, who was a resident of Victoria Island, Lagos had disclosed in the suicide note that he was undeserving of a woman like his wife.

While it was not immediately clear as to why the banker took his life, report says he had earlier hinted of the plan to his friends in several Facebook posts.

His lifeless body along with the insecticide drank, was discovered by his wife when she returned from the market.

His Suicide note read: “The Best, that’s what I used to call you. Finally this is the end of my journey here on earth. The evil I have been battling with has succeeded in quenching the flame.

“You married a wrong man. You’re a good woman and you deserved the best. You need to be happy. You need to soar. “Please take care of our princess, Chinenyenwa. Tell her that I love her so much. Be peaceable with everyone, though (it’s) not gonna be easy. Tell my family not to harbour any resentment against you. You’re a blessing to us.

“That’s the wish of a dying man. Don’t cry for me, but pray for me. I love you and Chinenye so much. Goodbye My beloved.”

In the past, suicide is relatively unknown but recently Nigeria has been ranked the 5th by the Spectator Index on the list countries with high suicide rates.

The report says in every 100,000 suicides, 15,000 of them were committed in Nigeria.

The list was topped by South Korea with 24,000,000, followed by Russia with 18,000,000 then India with a rate of 16,000,000 and Japan placing 4th with 15,400,000.
