Tiv/Jukun Crisis Deepens, 3 Killed at Wukari University

The incessant clashes between the Jukun and Tiv tribes in Taraba has deepened with suspected militia killing two students and one lecturer at the Federal University Wukari, Taraba State on Tuesday.

Those killed were reported to be of Tiv tribe.

The University has been temporarily shutdown because of the incident as many students of Tiv extraction protested the killings.

It would be recalled that President Muhammadu Buhari had in June promised to constitute an inclusive stakeholder committee that will thoroughly interrogate issues that fuel communal conflicts across the country with a particular focus on the clashes the Tiv and Jukun tribes in Benue and Taraba States.

About 22 people were reportedly killed in April in the clash between the two ethnic groups.

In June, five people lost their lives with several houses burnt in another clash between the two groups.

More than 10,000 people from the crisis areas have also relocated to the Internally Displaced Camps due to the incessant clashes.
