Former Kaduna senator, Shehu Sani has called on the National Assembly to mandate blood pressure tests and heart checks for public officials before appearing before its committees.
Sani’s appeal came via his official X handle in response to the death of Deputy Comptroller Etop Andrew Essien, a customs officer in charge of Revenue in the Account Unit of the Service.
Essien collapsed and died on Tuesday while being questioned by the House of Representatives Committee on Public Accounts. The spokesperson of the House, Akin Rotimi, announced Essien’s death, attributing it to health complications that arose during the session with lawmakers.
