Former Governor Nasir El-Rufai has sued the Kaduna State House of Assembly over allegations that his administration embezzled N423 billion and left the state with substantial debt.
El-Rufai filed a fundamental rights enforcement case on Wednesday at the Federal High Court in Kaduna, claiming he was denied a fair hearing. His lawyer, Abdulhakeem Mustapha, argued that El-Rufai’s rights to a fair hearing, as guaranteed by the Nigerian Constitution, were violated by the Assembly’s ad hoc committee.
The ad hoc committee, chaired by Henry Zacharia, had accused El-Rufai’s administration of misusing loans and not following proper procedures. El-Rufai seeks a court declaration that the committee’s report is unconstitutional and null and void.
