Bandits Attack Katsina Communities, kill 22 Residents, four Police Officers

The Katsina State Police Command has confirmed that bandits attacked several villages in the state, killing 20 people, including four police officers and two members of the Katsina State Community Watch Corps (KSCWC). The attacks occurred on Sunday afternoon in the Gidan Bofa and Dan Nakwabo communities in Kankara Local Government Area (LGA) of Katsina State. The bandits killed 15 people in Gidan Boka village and another five in the Dan Nakwabo community.
In a statement issued by Abubakar Sadiq, the police spokesperson in Katsina, it was reported that the bandits also ambushed a police patrol team, killing four officers, including three inspectors one corporal, and two members of the KSCWC. The team was responding to a distress call about the attack on Gidan Baki village. The statement detailed the events of the attack:

  • At 15:00 hours, a distress call was received about armed bandits attacking Gidan Baki village.
  • The nearest armored personnel carrier (APC) patrol team was dispatched to the scene.
  • While en route, the team discovered the attack was actually on Gidan Boka village via Yar Goje village, where they redirected towards the scene.
  • Upon reaching Kurmeji village via Yar Goje, the team fell into an ambush, leading to a firefight between the team and the bandits.
  • The DPO mobilized a team of operatives to the scene and restored normalcy.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the bandits attacked Gidan Boka village, killing 15 people and injuring two others. They also ambushed the police patrol team, killing four officers and two KSCWC members. Additionally, the bandits killed five people while escaping through Dan Nakwabo village.

The police command is currently investigating the incident and will provide further updates
