Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have arrived in Nigeria to promote the Invictus Games, a sports initiative for wounded and sick service veterans.
The couple, visiting West Africa for the first time at the invitation of the Nigerian military, arrived in the capital city of Abuja early in the morning on Friday. Their visit is expected to boost morale and well-being among Nigerian soldiers engaged in the 14-year conflict against Islamic extremists.
Director of Sports at Nigeria’s Defence Headquarters, Abidemi Marquis, told reporters that during their stay, the couple will meet with wounded soldiers and attend basketball and volleyball matches in Abuja and Lagos.
He added that Meghan will also co-host an event on women in leadership with Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director General of the World Trade Organization.
