Nigeria Requires $8 Billion Annually to Fight HIV/AIDS- Reps

Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria Control, Amobi Ogah, has stated that Nigeria needs an estimated $8 billion annually to sustain the fight against HIV/AIDS.

Speaking at the 2024 Nigeria HIV Prevention Conference in Abuja, Ogah underscored the need to increase local funding in the fight against the disease. 

The conference, themed ‘Accelerating HIV Prevention to End AIDS through Innovations and Community Engagement,’ was organized by the National Agency for the Control of AIDS.

Nigeria currently has an estimated 1.8 million people living with HIV, with about 1.63 million already on Antiretroviral Therapy, and has the highest burden of children born with HIV in the world.
