The Iranian Government Thursday imposed sanctions on several American and British individuals and entities for supporting Israel in its war against the Palestinian militant group Hamas.
The Islamic Republic unveiled the punitive measures in a statement from its foreign ministry. According to the statement, the sanctions targeted seven Americans, including the Commander, US special operations command, General Bryan P. Fenton, and Vice Admiral Brad Cooper, a former commander of the US Navy’s Fifth Fleet.
British officials and entities targeted include Secretary of State for Defence Grant Shapps, Commander, British Army strategic command James Hockenhull, and the UK Royal Navy in the Red Sea.
The sanctions include blocking accounts and transactions in the Iranian financial system and prohibiting visa issuance and entry to Iranian territory. The move comes amid escalating tensions in the region following clashes between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip, which have resulted in significant civilian casualties.
