Hoodlums Clash in Ile-Epo, Leaves Many Injured

A violent clash erupted among hoodlums in the Ile-Epo area of Lagos State, resulting in the burning of several shops and the destruction of goods.

The conflict reportedly began Wednesday night and extended into Thursday morning within the market located in the vicinity.

The Punch reported that despite attempts at police intervention, the hoodlums thwarted early efforts to quell the violence. It added that a fire service truck dispatched to the scene this morning was forced to retreat after being attacked with stones. As of reporting time, the situation remained fluid as authorities worked to restore calm.

Meanwhile, a police statement on Thursday by the command’s spokesman, Benjamin Hundeyin, said operatives of the Oko-Odo division intervened to restore normalcy to the area.

“Over fifty suspects have so far been arrested while the shanties they occupied have been destroyed, effectively dislodging them.

“The commissioner of police, Lagos state command, CP Adegoke Fayoade, mni, has directed the prompt prosecution of the arrested hoodlums and has equally warned that the command would decisively deal with anyone found breaching the peace, in accordance with the law,” the police command said.
