AEDC Decreases Tariff for Band A Customers to N206.80/kWh

The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company AEDC has announced a downward adjustment of its tariff for Band A customers to N206.80/kWh, effective from May 6, 2024.

The announcement was contained in its notice titled: “Tariff Decrease on Band A Feeders.” Despite the decrease, AEDC assures Band A customers of continued availability of electricity supply for 20-24 hours daily.

The adjustment follows the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission’s approval of a tariff adjustment from N68/kWh to N225/kWh on March 3. AEDC clarified that the rates for bands B, C, D, and E remain unchanged.

Similarly, the Ikeja Electric Distribution Company has announced a significant reduction in electricity tariff for customers under Band A category, effective May 6, 2024, customers in this category will now pay N206.80/kWh, down from the previous rate of N225/kWh

The NERC in April announced a new tariff hike of N225/kWh. This represents about a 241 per cent increment in rate for customers on Band A.

Customers on Band A enjoy 20 hours and above electricity supply daily.

Since the implementation of the new tariff began, many customers on Band A have lamented how it has been impacting them negatively. They have also accused DisCos of failing to supply up to 20 hours of electricity daily. This has resulted in litigation against NERC and some DisCos.
