Wike Donates Motorcycles to DSS, Police to Boost Security

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, has distributed 100 motorcycles to security agencies and the six Area Councils in the FCT to enhance their capacity to combat crime in the nation’s capital. The presentation was made at a ceremony in Abuja on April 15, 2024, in the presence of the Area Council Chairmen and Heads of Security Agencies.

The Minister explained that each of the six Area Councils would receive ten motorcycles for their vigilante outfits, while the police would receive thirty motorcycles. The Department of State Security (DSS) and the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) would each receive five motorcycles.

Wike emphasized the importance of these motorcycles in enhancing security in the rural areas of the FCT, which are more vulnerable to crime due to their remote and challenging terrains. He urged the security agencies to ensure that the motorcycles are used solely for fighting crime in the designated areas and not for commercial purposes.

The Minister also urged the Area Council Chairmen to ensure that the motorcycles are given to the vigilante outfits in their respective councils and assured them of the FCT Administration’s support in providing logistics for those using the motorcycles. He cautioned against misuse of the motorcycles and warned against hearing stories of their disappearance.

In addition to the motorcycles, Wike announced that patrol vehicles would be ready for presentation to the security agencies in the next couple of weeks to further aid the fight against crime and criminalities. He reiterated the FCT Administration’s commitment to supporting the FCT Area Councils in their efforts to maintain law and order.
