Tragic Accident in Kogi State Claims 13 Lives, Injures 2

The Federal Road Safety Corps reported on Monday that 13 individuals lost their lives, while two others sustained injuries in a car accident in Kogi State.

According to Mr. Samuel Oyedeji, the Kogi FRSC Sector Commander, the accident occurred around 7:30 pm on Sunday.

He explained that the crash involved a commercial Sharon bus and an articulated cement truck, happening near Obajana Market along Obajana-Lokoja Road in Lokoja Local Government Area of the state.

Oyedeji mentioned that the Sharon bus was parked behind a truck at the market for passengers to make purchases when the cement truck, which had lost its brakes, collided with it from the rear.

“As soon as the truck rammed into the bus, it immediately went into flame and burnt virtually all the passengers inside it. Also burnt were the bus, two trucks and a motorcycle,” he stated.

Oyedeji expressed concern over the refusal of any hospitals in Kogi to accept the charred bodies for preservation, indicating that authorities might consider a mass burial if no relatives come forward.

Describing the incident as “deeply tragic and regrettable,” the sector commander urged motorists to avoid speeding and ensure proper maintenance of their vehicles.

He emphasized the importance of conducting thorough vehicle checks before embarking on journeys to prevent road accidents.
