Thailand Issues Heatstroke Warning as Temperatures Soar

Thailand has sounded alarm bells on scorching temperatures Thursday, with at least 30 heatstroke-related deaths reported this year. AFP reports that Bangkok issued an extreme heat warning as the heat index soared above 52 degrees Celsius, with similar conditions forecasted.

AFP added that a wave of exceptionally hot weather has swept South and Southeast Asia, leading to school suspensions in the Philippines and prayers for rain in Bangladesh.

Authorities have urged vulnerable populations, including the elderly and those with underlying health conditions, to stay indoors and hydrated as the region faces record-breaking temperatures worsened by the El Nino weather pattern.

Thailand and Myanmar experience extreme temperatures, with Lampang recording 44.2 degrees Celsius and Myanmar reaching 45.9 degrees Celsius and additional challenges due to power blackouts, AFP reports.
