Super Eagles Star Osayi-Samuel Escapes Punishment In Turkey

Following a Turkish Super Lig match between Trabzonspor and Fenerbahce, which Fenerbahce won 3-2, Trabzonspor supporters invaded the pitch, leading to a brawl involving Trabzonspor defender Bright Osayi-Samuel.

Initially, Osayi-Samuel and two of his teammates faced misconduct charges from the Turkish Football Federation. However, Osayi-Samuel was later cleared of any wrongdoing in the incident, as reported by Turkish sources.

Trabzonspor has been ordered to play six matches behind closed doors due to the violence, and their coach, Egemen Korkmaz, has been banned from the dressing room and bench for one match for fighting with a rival player. Fenerbahce players Jayden Oosterwolde and Irfan Can Egribayat received one-game bans for engaging in altercations with opposing supporters. Trabzonspor has also been fined 3 million Turkish lira (£75,000) as a result of the incidentThe incident unfolded when Trabzonspor fans ran onto the pitch and attacked Fenerbahce players and security forces at Papara Park in Trabzos. Video footage shows Osayi-Samuel tackling one of the pitch invaders, but he did not face any sanctions.

Throughout the match, Fenerbahce players were targeted by objects thrown from the crowd, prompting Trabzonspor players to intervene and appeal to the fans to stop their actions. FIFA President Gianni Infantino denounced the incident as ‘absolutely unacceptable’, and the TFF previously stated that those responsible will face ‘necessary penal sanctions’.
