PDP Crisis: House Minority Leaders Disown 60 Lawmakers

The minority leaders of the House of Representatives, representing various opposition parties, have disavowed the group of 60 lawmakers who recently called for the resignation of the acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Umar Damagum, over alleged anti-party activities.

On Monday, the 60 parliamentarians, operating under the banner of the Coalition of Opposition Lawmakers, convened in Abuja and issued a statement threatening to leave the PDP if Damagum did not step down. They suggested that a new acting chairman from the North Central zone, the region of the suspended National Chairman Senator Iyorchia Ayu, should be appointed.

In response, the minority leaders, including Kingsley Chinda, the Minority Leader and leader of the caucus; Ali Madaki, Deputy Minority Leader; Ali Isah, Minority Whip; and George Ozodinobi, Deputy Minority Whip, jointly issued a statement on Tuesday distancing themselves from the Ikenga Ugochinyere-led coalition.

The statement read,“Our attention has been drawn to a press release by the group and we state unequivocally that the minority caucus and the PDP caucus dissociates themselves from the said press statement.”
