Nigeria Customs Intercepts N2.9bn Contraband in Q1 2024

The Nigeria Customs Service, Federal Operations Unit, Zone A Ikeja, has announced the interception of contraband worth N2.9bn in the first quarter of 2024.

The Customs Area Controller, Hussein Ejibunnu, disclosed that 29 suspects were arrested during this period.

Among the seized items were 12,278 bags of rice, 40 units of used vehicles, 286 cartons of rubber slippers, and various other contraband goods.

Ejibunnu also highlighted the challenges faced by officers, including attacks by suspected smugglers in Oyo State, warning armed non-state actors of the legal consequences.
