NAFDAC Cracks Down on Counterfeit Products, Seizes Fake Goods Worth N50 Million in Abuja

In a significant operation, the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration (NAFDAC) has seized counterfeit products valued at N50 million in a series of raids across Abuja. The agency’s crackdown on fake goods yielded a substantial haul of counterfeit Nivea products, cosmetics, and drugs, highlighting the extent of the counterfeit problem in the region.

The raids, which took place in areas including Garki, Wuse, Utako, Kugbo, Nyanya, and Mararaba, uncovered fake products at Sahad Stores, H-Medix, and various markets. Counterfeit drugs were also seized at Utako market. The seized products included fake Nivea items, cosmetics, Jik bleach, Harpic toilet cleaner, and Airwick room freshener, with a total value of N50 million.

NAFDAC’s Head of Investigation and Enforcement, Embugushiki-Musa Godiya, expressed concern over the proliferation of counterfeit goods, particularly fake NIVEA products, which are sold at inflated prices. He warned that these fake goods pose significant health risks, including the potential for cancer, kidney damage, and skin rashes.

Goddya reiterated NAFDAC’s commitment to eradicating counterfeit syndicates and protecting public health. The agency remains resolute in its mission to ensure the safety and well-being of citizens by combating the menace of counterfeit products, despite the country’s economic challenges.
