The Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused Governor Siminalayi Fubara of planning to secure interim court orders to halt the implementation of laws that he previously vetoed and to declare the House of Assembly led by Rt. Hon. Martins Chike Amaewhule illegal.
At a press conference in Port Harcourt on Thursday, the caretaker committee chairman of the APC, Chief Tony Okocha, revealed these plans and stated that the Governor aims to use the orders to appoint caretaker committees in local governments, disregarding the President’s warning.
Okocha criticized the Governor’s statement warning that his simplicity towards implementing the 8-point peace agreement should not be mistaken for weakness. Okocha questioned why Fubara only realized that the peace agreement was not a constitutional implementation after the fact.
The APC chairman also accused Fubara of refusing to conduct an election in local governments, disrespecting the President’s directive and the extant laws of Rivers State.
In response, the state Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mr. Joseph Johnson, denied the allegations and stated that there was no truth to the APC chairman’s claims. He suggested that the APC was afraid due to the organic love expressed by Rivers people towards the Governor.
