Ekiti PDP Criticizes Governor Oyebanji Over Appointments

The Ekiti State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has condemned Governor Biodun Oyebanji for what they perceive as misusing the limited resources of the state by appointing a large number of political aides, alleging that this move is aimed at draining the state’s finances to support his second term aspirations.

The opposition party has raised objections to the recent appointment of over 110 Special Assistants (SAs), Senior Special Assistants (SSAs), and Technical Advisors (TAs) by the state government. Governor Oyebanji had previously appointed 162 aides in November 2023, comprising 79 Senior Special Assistants (SSAs), 73 Special Assistants (SAs), and 10 Technical Advisors (TAs).

Raphael Adeyanju, the PDP Publicity Secretary in Ekiti State, criticized the governor for allegedly transforming the state into a hub for patronage for his party members, neglecting the welfare of the ordinary citizens who are grappling with the harsh economic conditions exacerbated by the policies of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) at both national and state levels.

Adeyanju accused Governor Oyebanji of prioritizing politics over governance, highlighting what he perceives as the governor’s failure to fulfill his electoral promises to the people of Ekiti. The PDP spokesperson emphasized the need for the governor to focus on delivering quality leadership, implementing projects that benefit the populace, and addressing the pressing issues of economic hardship and insecurity in the state instead of concentrating on political maneuvers for re-election.
