The Benue State Independent Electoral Commission BSIEC has announced that elections will be held in the 23 Local Government Areas of the state on July 6, 2023.
During a stakeholders’ meeting in Makurdi, BSIEC Chairman John Chen unveiled plans for the elections, which will include the election of chairmen and councilors, including those from newly created council wards.
Chen underscored the commission’s commitment to conducting free, fair, and credible elections, in line with the governor’s directive. He assured that the commission would not organize sham elections, as this would only lead to the enthronement of mediocre leaders.
The commission also announced its intention to create additional council wards in Benue State to ensure more equitable representation and bring governance closer to the people.
