UniJos Students Protest Water Scarcity, Lack of Electricity

Some students at the University of Jos in Plateau State protested against water scarcity and electricity supply issues by locking the school gates, chanting solidarity songs, and displaying placards with messages like ‘No light to soak Garri’ and ‘We no get SUG.’

They expressed their distress over the impact of these problems on their academic activities. The protest resulted in staff and university management being locked outside the gates.

The Dean of Students Affairs, Prof. Christopher Piwuna, acknowledged the challenges of water scarcity and power outages in the hostels, attributing them to an outstanding debt with the Jos Electricity Distribution Company. He mentioned that the Vice Chancellor intervened to resolve the issues, ensuring water supply to the hostels and promising the reconnection of electricity.

Prof. Christopher assured that with the water supply restored and electricity reconnected, the students would no longer face these problems.
