Rice Distribution: Students Feared Dead in Stampede

A tragic incident occurred at Nasarawa State University, Keffi, where some female students are feared to have lost their lives in a stampede at the university’s convocation square on Friday during the distribution of relief items to students. Numerous other students are reported to have sustained injuries of varying degrees due to the stampede.

Yunusa Baduku, the National President of the Nasarawa State Students Association, described the event as distressing, confirming the incident to journalists. He explained that all affected students had been swiftly taken to hospitals for medical care.

“Seriously, what happened this morning at the Nasarawa State University, Keffi is uncalled for, and very pathetic,” he said. “After our arrangement for the distribution of palliatives to the students which was to hold at the University’s convocation square, they (students) suddenly arrived at the venue in their numbers and overpowered the security.”

In other news, Afenifere, the Yoruba socio-political organization, urged President Bola Tinubu to address Nigeria’s economic challenges, citing the country’s status as the “hunger capital of the world.”

They also called for decisive action against terrorism, particularly in northern Nigeria. Afenifere highlighted the persistent devaluation of the Nigerian naira due to a shortage of US dollars, emphasizing the dire situation of hunger faced by Nigerians amidst the ongoing crisis.
