Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, and the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, have arrived in Geneva, Switzerland, for the 148th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union IPU.
Akpabio led the Nigerian delegation and was accompanied by Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong.
They were received by Nigeria’s Ambassador to Switzerland, Abiodun Richards Adejola, and South African Ambassador to Switzerland, Mr Mxolisi Nkosi. The IPU Assembly, scheduled from March 23 to 27, 2024, aims to promote peace through parliamentary diplomacy and dialogue.
Nigeria’s participation follows Akpabio’s election into the IPU Executive Committee at the previous edition in Luanda, Angola, breaking a 59-year-old jinx for Nigeria’s representation on the committee.
