Customs Commences Food Distribution, Sells 25kg of Rice for N10,000

Today, the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, is set to begin the sale of confiscated bags of rice to the public at the price of N10,000 per 25kg bag.

Speaking to journalists in Lagos, the Comptroller General of the NCS, Mr. Adewale Adeniyi, revealed that the process for purchasing these food items has been streamlined. Applicants will be required to submit a form containing all their details, including the National Identification Number, NIN. Upon submission, a barcode will be generated for the collection of the rice.

Adeniyi announced the opening of ten registration points for the public, aimed at simplifying the purchasing process.

He emphasized that the decision to sell the confiscated items is aimed at reducing the cost of food items and stabilizing the value of the Naira.

Adeniyi cautioned against the resale of the purchased rice, stating that individuals caught engaging in this will face arrest and possible prosecution.

He clarified that the sale of these confiscated items will take place over a period of time, with the primary focus being on assisting underprivileged Nigerians.
