Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva, has taken action by setting up a committee to address the issue. The cost of cooking gas has surged from around N700 to over N900 per kg, prompting government intervention.
Led by Farouk Ahmed of the Nigerian Midstream Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, the committee has been tasked with finding solutions within one week.
The identified challenges include forex issues for imports and insufficient domestic supply, with Sylva emphasizing the government’s commitment to ensuring ample gas supply and expressing concern over the impact of rising prices on citizens.
