Customs CG Launches Inaugural Reunion, Unveils Comprehensive Welfare Plans for Retired Management Team

 

In a landmark event hosted at the Customs Corporate Headquarters in Abuja on Saturday, November 25, 2023, retired members of the Nigeria Customs Service’s Management Team gathered for their first-ever reunion, commemorating a shared legacy of dedication and service.

Comptroller-General Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR delivered an earnest address, assuring retirees of comprehensive measures to enhance their welfare. He announced ambitious plans to integrate them into the Nigeria Customs Service’s healthcare programs, underscoring his commitment to nurturing enduring connections beyond active service.

Adeniyi revealed ongoing discussions with the Minister of Finance aimed at championing a bill to establish a dedicated Pension Scheme. He emphasized the strategic foresight in securing the financial future of leaders within the Nigeria Customs Service.

Highlighting the significance of the reunion, the CGC stated, “Today marks a momentous occasion as we come together for the first-ever reunion of Customs’ seasoned leaders.” He emphasized the wealth of knowledge in the room and stressed the importance of fortifying the connections bridging the past, present, and future of the Nigeria Customs Service.

Recognizing the retirees’ substantial contributions, Adeniyi emphasized the need for tailored programs to facilitate seamless collaboration, ensuring the service continues to benefit from their wealth of expertise. He described the gathering as a definitive avenue for reconnecting with successful leaders who have played pivotal roles in shaping the organization.

Expressing confidence in the impact of the reunion, the CGC stated that their collective presence would contribute to greater efficiency, enhanced regulatory compliance, and the realization of stable economic development goals for the country.

“I am confident that with your continued support and guidance, we will overcome challenges and achieve greater heights,” he affirmed.

The occasion saw the presence of distinguished figures such as the immediate past Comptroller-General of Customs, Col. Ahmed Ali (retired), Dr. Abubakar Musa, Bernard Nwadialo, and a former sole administrator, Major-General SOG Ango (retired). Additionally, numerous retired Deputy Comptroller-Generals of Customs and Assistant Comptroller-Generals of Customs attended the event.
