On Sunday, tragedy struck in the Orile area of Lagos State when an officer from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Abiodun Ajomole, lost his life in a harrowing accident. Ajomole was attending to a commercial bus driver when an out-of-control truck, plagued by brake failure, collided with him and the bus.
The Lagos State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed the officer’s tragic demise. Spokeswoman Olabisi Sonusi issued a statement on Sunday, revealing that Marshal Abiodun Ajomole, stationed at the Costain Unit Command, was performing official duties when the calamity unfolded.
The incident transpired near the Orile/Iganmu Bridge, as a team led by DRC MT KPASSU conducted their routine patrol activities. The unfortunate event occurred around 1420 hrs on Saturday, September 16, 2023.
Sonusi further disclosed that initial investigations indicated that Marshal Ajomole was aiding an LT Volkswagen bus, bearing registration number AKD 108 XY and painted blue, when a Mack truck, lacking a visible number plate, failed to halt and collided with the LT Volkswagen, trapping the Marshal against a stationary Matrix tanker at the roadside, leading to his tragic demise.
Swift action was taken as the Orile Police Division was promptly informed of the incident, mobilizing its personnel. Additionally, LASTMA officials rushed to the scene to assist with rescue operations.
