Man Gets Life-Saving Surgery On World’s Largest Hospital Ship

A 43-year-old man undergoes life-changing surgery aboard the world’s largest civilian hospital ship, the Global Mercy.

Concerned about living with a facial tumor indefinitely, Emmanuel, a father-of-one from Freetown, Sierra Leone, became the first recipient of surgery on the ship.

The surgery, which took place on September 12 at the Port of Freetown, marks the beginning of the ship’s mission to perform over 2,350 surgeries during its 10-month stay in Freetown.
