The National Emergency Management Agency NEMA has issued a warning about heavy rainfall that may lead to flooding in 13 states and 50 communities, mainly in the northern part of Nigeria, from September 13 to 17.
The Lagos Territorial Coordinator of NEMA, Mr. Ibrahim Farinloye, disclosed that the states and communities likely to be affected include Kano, Kebbi, Katsina, Niger, Kwara, Zamfara, Bauchi, Taraba, Borno, Adamawa, Yobe, Gombe, and Jigawa.
Due to rising water levels in Rivers Benue and Niger, communities along these rivers, including those in Bayelsa, are advised to take precautionary measures. The warning is based on predictions from the National Flood Early Warning Systems (FEWS) Central Hub and the Federal Ministry of Environment Abuja.
