The Imo State National and State House of Assembly Election Petitions Tribunal has made a significant ruling, resulting in the removal of a member of the House of Representatives, Ikenga Ugochinyere, who had been elected under the banner of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
In a unanimous decision delivered on Sunday, a three-member panel of the tribunal, which conducted its proceedings in Nasarawa State, determined that Ugochinyere’s nomination by the PDP for the Ideato North/South Federal Constituency election, held on February 25, was not in accordance with the required procedures.
As a consequence of this ruling, the tribunal has instructed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to organize a supplementary election within a 90-day timeframe for the constituency.
